Iberia and Iberia Express Led the World in Punctuality in 2015

  • For the second year running the budget Iberia Express unit was the world’s most punctual low-cost airline, with 93.50% of its flights on time.
  • The oneworld alliance, to which both belong, was last year’s most punctual airline alliance, for the third consecutive year.

In 2015 both Iberia and Iberia Express again held top positions in the punctuality ratings, as determined by independent industry monitors FlightStats.

Iberia, First in Europe and Second in the World

Iberia earned second place in the world and first place amongst European airlines in the 2015 punctuality stakes after 88.97% of its 187,538 flights arrived on time.

In 2014 Iberia had ranked third. Last year it was first in November and second in August, September, and October.

Iberia’s chairman/CEO Luis Gallego commented, “we’re particularly proud of this great achievement because it has a direct and highly positive impact on our customers’ travel experience, and because our position in the ranking attests to the commitment and efforts of all our staff, whom I take this opportunity to thank.”

Iberia Express is Again the World’s Most Punctual Budget Airline

For the second consecutive year the low-cost unit Iberia Express was the most punctual in its category worldwide, after 93.5% of its 31,355 flights arrived on time at their destinations.

Having topped the ranking in 2014, it did even better last year, coming in first every month from July through December.

The airline’s chairman Fernando Candela that “to obtain this recognition for the second year running is doubly a motive for satisfaction since it shows that we have a great human team, and that we are giving our customers the world’s highest levels of quality for a budget carrier, even though we have been operating for only three years. This is explained by our rigorous working procedures and the hard work of all our employees.”

More Flights and Higher Punctuality

The punctuality ratings of both carriers rose last year, even as both raised their capacity, measured in seats for sale per kilometre flown (ASKs). From January through November, Iberia’s capacity climbed by 10.1%, whilst that of Iberia Express was increased by 27.5%. Together, the two units launched a total of more than 30 new routes.

The improved punctuality reflects the Iberia Group’s efforts to improve quality and customer satisfaction via a series of measures, ranging from the reorganising of flight schedules to the optimising of pre-flight procedures.

The Most Punctual Airline Alliance: oneworld

In 2015 the oneworld alliance of commercial airlines, to which both Iberia and Iberia Express belong, also ranked at the top in punctuality, for the third consecutive year.

The 15 members of the alliance staged a total of more than 4.8 million flights, of which 80.97% arrived on time.
